Recently, I joined the crowd of bluetooth headset wearers…I don’t wear it everywhere and look like an idiot but I am impressed with it’s features and functuality. So, today, I installed a bluetooth module in my laptop as well…

Installing the bluetooth module was extremely (and surprisingly) easy on my Dell Latitude D630. I took the module out of another laptop but you get the idea. All I had to do was pop off the hinges (the slightly grayer area above the keyboard) and pop out the module, which is located to the very left, disconnect the cord in laptop 1 and do the same to install in laptop 2 - that’s it!

I’m impressed with bluetooth technology – at least at the moment

If you are using Microsoft Office 2007 to create documents, make sure you have Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.0 to create a PDF from multiple .docx files. If not, you will see this error: “Missing Adobe PDFMaker files. Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?”

That’s right – right-clicking on a file and converting it to PDF does not work when using Office 2007 and Adobe Acrobat Standard 7.0. Check out the link below that discusses an Office add-in that is available. Haven’t tried it.

However, we do use PDF995 to print files to PDF, which is pretty convenient (and free) – especially for AutoCAD and ABS drawings. PDF995 doesn’t allow the ability to merge multiple documents into one PDF. Ah, the woes of opportunity cost…

Hankins and Anderson is an Engineering Consulting firm specializing in Federal Building Design. We are a medium-size business with approximately 150 employees; 10 of these employees work at our remote office located 2 hours away from the main office. The technical talents of the staff vary from barely existant to very knowledgable.

Personally, this is my first job in the Information Technology field. I’m learning a tremendous amount on a day-to-day basis but at times, it can be very frustrating. Hence, the purpose of this blog.

It’s my daily knowledge – purged. It’s my reference, it’s my repository, it’s my release.
